Fake Tan

Upon hearing this three piece on myspace a few thoughts came to mind. Firstly, super lo-fi production on care-free pastiches of 60's pop always sounds cool. Second, rarely has such cheesy adolescent abandon sounded so swell. I mean, sure Rivers Cuomo has channeled it a lot across the years, but Fake Tan bypass the tongue in cheek cynicism and inherent creepiness (at least since he started pushing forty, or thirty, or twenty-five or something).

First track "I Won't Flirt" is a lesson in embracing cliche with an unpretentious grin and head a-bopping, with the opening riff, verse "yeah yeahs" and chorus all sounding instantly familiar but somehow fresh and new. Creature Comforts also asserts itself as an instant Adelaide classic. Their live shows are endearingly sloppy, incredibly loud and totally jubilant experiences, transforming even the most jaded Metro crowd into grinning idiots. Some day soon they will whip up interstate audiences and bloggers alike into giddy Beatlemania-sque fan girls. It wouldn't surprise me.

As a side note, they also look about 14 onstage with Vince absolutely dwarfed by the bass he often sports, which is both amusing and utterly depressing, making even me feel past my prime at the ripe old age of 19. The Justin Bieber for the Bitch Prefect crowd, perhaps?
