Chimneys

I was quite a fan of Melbourne-via-Perth collective Institut Polaire and their knack for pastoral folk rock with a few dollops of alt-country and James Mercer pop for good measure. The seven piece broke up not long after the release of their excellent and long-gestating debut LP 'Make Your Own Mayflower' which boasted an impressively cinematic titular single and a whole bunch of other fine choons.

Luckily some of the members have floated to the surface in new projects, such as acoustic guitarist Samantha Wass's new baby Chimneys. Aside from an excellent, evocative band name, the trio dabble in a similarly strummed vein to their predecessors, though in a far more stripped back manner emphasising twin harmony vocals from the two lady frontmen that fall on the pleasant end of the country vocal spectrum, more loose and airy than high and lonesome. While still cooking, their first recording 'Winters' is pretty lovely, and also boasts percussion from fellow Polaire expat and ex-Audreys drummer Toby Lang.

  1. Nice track, I've not heard of them before I'm afraid but like how the track wants to wrap itself around you. Kepping you warm from the winter that's brewing outside.

    Thanks
